I would like to propose a call swap to beat the August doldrums. I'm sure almost everyone out there has a Custom made turkey call that they wouldn't mind parting with in hopes of getting one that suits them better. It would go like this:
(1) Any CUSTOM MADE turkey call in new or like new condition would qualify, whether made by the participant or by someone else.
(2) Interested members of Osage Roost should RESPOND TO THIS POST by August 15.
(3) I will list participants alphabetically by screen name and post a list soon after.
(4) Each participant will contact the name on the list below him and get his mailing address. (Bottom man will contact top man)
(5) Send a call to that person before the end of the month.

This sounds like a good idea, but you use the term, "that suits you better. ". In the formatthat you are proposing, that might not be the case, because I would have to take the call that the man ahead of me is offering. The same for the person behind me. That call might not "suit me". I think this is a great idea, but I also wonder if there is another way of doing it.

I am interested, sounds fun

Patrick,
I'm trying to keep it simple. I guess if the call isn't one that you would like to keep, you could swap it off next month! I'm open to suggestions, though.
MISFIRE:You are in.

Ok. Didn't realize it was going to be a monthly thing. Count me in as well.
-
I'm interested...anybody got a Marlin Watkins fiddlebox......? ;D
-
Swapping calls sounds great. Got to work out the details. Are the calls going to be of equal value or pot for pot and box for box?
-
Again, what I had in mind was "any custom call." Just trying to keep it simple and see how many are interested. I didn't want to exclude any group by limiting the swap to a certain type of call. I think the more simple we make this, the more successful it will be. At the worst, interest will die out after a couple of months and we can write it off as a bad experiment. Best case scenerio is that it could be a monthly feature here on Osage Roost, with the possibility for all of us to broaden our collections and have fun doing it.
Knowing the caliber of people who "roost" here, I don't expect any "junk" to be traded.

Count me in. *cool* Great idea.

Please count me in Tom, sounds like fun!

I was thinking that if you are trading a call, I wouldn't think anyone would trade a very good call would they? So what kind of quality could one expect? To me most would be ones that don't sound very good.

im in *up* think i got somethin layin round.... *aah*

Jim i guess that depends on the person...they have a similar setup on another site but it is pretty much callmaker to callmaker....so most cases you get what they specialize in....in this case i have seen several callmakers sign up and fer those who are not i really do not know what to expect....i would think they would trade a good cal they may not use often not just a call that they think is junk just to try and get somethin better....but anywho i think its worth a shot at least once... *cheers*

Well I see that most of you are call makers and since I am not I don't think that I will be in this call swap.. most of your calls would be better than the ones that I would trade...I wouldn't feel right trading calls that I don't feel are up to par with some of the ones that I might receive. Longbeard please don't include me in this swap.. It does sound like fun though... Jim

That's OK, Jim,
This SWAP may not become a regular thing here at O.R., I know that it won't if we each go into it hoping to "trade up," so to speak. Maybe we should have put a minimum monetary value on the calls, such as $50. After this first swap, there may be lots of ideas that come about. Box calls one month, Pots one month, trumpets one month, scratch boxes one month, etc. I know, for instance that it wouldn't be enough for me to swap just one of my (personal) scratch boxes this month. I have decided that I will swap off either two scratch boxes or one of my scratch boxes and a one-sider paddle box from another maker. Haven't made up my mind yet. Maybe if we can get through this first one, we can look back and plan better for the next one.

Please remove me fromthe swap. Not going to be able to do it.
Thanks,
Patrick
