Title: Box Calls
Post by: augiedog55 on September 19, 2009, 11:34:57 AM
Ok  guys. I'm new to this . I've bought a couple of great  box calls in the last weeks. Both short boxes. They are both  calls that   were way beyond my expectations..These calls care the best. These guys are both make awesome call. One is  from Al and Josh  (ss incorporated)  RkLu and the other was from Marlin Watkins *up*. I'm looking to add another box call to my collection. Who would you guys suggest that I look into for my next one.
Thanks in advance
Bruce           ps I just sent a deposit to spokane dan for a long box

Sweet!!

Well, i have a robert clifft one sider that rocks, tiger maple with african mahogany soundboard and padauk end blocks, as well as a bowrebel box, rosewood on mahogany, that sounds awesome as well, and i have a longbox from Blackfalcon, ebony over holly, that can really scream. Also have a longbox from the SS boys, walnut over poplar, that is just one awesome combo, it never fails in the woods! But many guys make a great box around here!  *up* *up*

Ok here's who I have calls from and I'd add to the list.  Not sure what you are exactly looking for, but you've gotten off to a great start :)

CCCalls (Tim Clayton) have several of his and never been let down.  Charlie Parrish...  I love his work and he builds a heck of a call (sorry Charlie :) ), Whitt's classic box is really unique and definitely one of a kind.  I have a willow/walnut from him and love that call!  Bob Harwell is another fellow that builds a great call!  Just be warned, he talks more on the phone than me :)  I have two from him.  poplar/walnut and mahogany/walnut.

Have one being built by Frozen Crow and have heard nothing but good things on them.  Just received one of bowrebels and it's a heck of a deal for a great call!

There are many more builders and here's a warning... I'm not sure if you can stop just adding one more ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO

(If I've missed anyone, I'm sorry and I'm always interested in these kind of posts too).

In my opinion there are many very good box call makers out there. These are some that I would recommend to you: Mike Lapp, Darren Dawkins, Charlie Parrish, Marlin Watkins, Tommy Hepler, Tony Quarino, Albert Paul, Don Clark, Chad Griep, Al Shoemaker and others not named. I know for a fact that these callmakers are producing terrific boxcalls on a regular basis. Most of these callmakers I have gotten several boxcalls from in the past and will continue to do so. There are certainly other callmakers out there doing some good work. Soon I hope to add a Lee Smith boxcall to my list.

Albert Paul, Mike Lapp, Ed Terenfencko, Bob Harwell, Charlie Parrish, Steve Mann, Irving Whitt, Darrin Dawkins, Tim Clayton, Lamar Williams. Most of these guys have been making calls for many years and consitently produce some of the best sounding calls I have had the pleasure of running and adding to my growing collection of Turkey Calls!
