Title: Anybody ever used Mammoth Kauri for a box call?

Supposed to be some pretty prehistoric aged wood. Just wondering if its ever been used. Thanks...

I looked at buying some , but it is really soft and light . I thought it wouldn't be worth the effort to try it . Love the history of that wood anyway !

I have used it to make a call. I like the looks of the call and I used Mahognay for a sound board and it sounds good. The only thing is the wood is soft as it is a pine tree family, so if your finger nail or ring hits it it will dent. I was told to use systems five epoxy on it and put on a few thin coats.

i was wondering the same thing, but that wood is really really expensive,  *fall*  nice looking wood though.

turned a couple of trumpets with it ,the wood is pithy and hard to turn ,but it makes a decent caller ,soft yelps,close range call, have some for sale if your interested,thanks,Rick
