Title: Does Old Heart Pine make a good box or lid? (pics attached)

 All I can tell you is, that Neil Cost used it to make one call from. He found it to be so full of pitch that the lid (any that he tried) filled w/ the pitch and became to difficult to use. The only way he got it to work was to substitute pine rosen for chalk.....and that worked just fine until you came in contact w/ humidity which gummed things up even more. He wrote some really awful comments on that box call................... *lol* *lol* *lol* *lol*

no telling how old this piece of lumber was...got the lumber from a friend that specializes in reclaiming old heart pine and finishes it out into some sweet looking floor candy.

Dimensions- 2 1/4" x 2 1/2" x 21 1/4"

I've got some old cypress that's tighter than that!

Never wanted to try it myself due to the problems described by GR8CALLS.    However,  I did play one at the South Carolina Sportsman Classic several years ago that sounded pretty dang good.   I believe the call was made by Al Willis.

Bill Zearing of Cody calls , is building a boxcall out of old heart pine for their line of calls now .
