Title: Name this burl (updated winner striker pics)
Post by: Gitzit69 on June 29, 2011, 08:33:07 PM: Ok guys, the first to tell me what kind of burl this pot is made of gets a free one piece striker. The striker will be either Hickory, Cardinal or Padauk your choice. One guess at a time only. Have fun! RkLu

Nobody has it yet, so here's one hint. I cut it from a tree myself here in Calif.

Post by: Gitzit69 on June 30, 2011, 12:02:56 PM: This burl was growing on a branch of a huge pine tree. I had no idea pine could produce such a burl. It was very hard to sand this pot. Any heat or friction would cause the pitch to come to the surface. The pot isn't done yet so I don't know how it will sound. If it's full of turkey there's a bunch of them left up there to be cut.

Yep it was pine. I'll be going back to cut more. There's a ton of these burls up there.

I got the Padauk striker yesterday. Beautiful striker with awesome design. It has some heft to it yet perfectly balanced. It really makes aluminum and glass pots sing. Thanks again.
