Title: New Project
Post by: hunter22 on June 10, 2011, 07:50:11 AM
I bought a Browning BPS 12 gauge back in the early 1980s, the first year that model came out. It has a 30 inch barrel with a fixed full choke. I used it for years to crow hunt but it has not been shot in probably 10 years. I decided to turn it into a turkey gun. I sent the barrel this week to William at Sumtoy for him to cut it to 26 inches and thread it so it will take different chokes. I asked William to make me a choke that would put out a good turkey pattern at 40 yds. When I get the barrel back I plan to take the gun up to Camo Solutions and have Don dip it in either Mossy Oak Obsession or Moth Wing Spring Mimicry. I will replace the recoil pad with a Kick EEZ. I am leaning towards Williams Fire Sight fiber optic sights since it will be used to "run and gun" and travel a lot. I will update this post as the project progresses.

Rickey,

Sounds like your going to really do it up right.....

I highly recommend a Burris FF2 or a Trigicon sight for the upgrade.....

              Why 26" barrel??

Good luck w/ this project..... *cheers*

Zumer,

I agree with you on the Burris FF2. I have that set up on my Benelli SBE and was 8 for 8 with it this spring. Just a deadly sight. But since this BPS will be for hard travelling I am leaning toward fiber optics.

I am not a "short barrel" man as you know. I just like 26 inch barrels.

I had wayyyyy more trouble w/ fiber optics getting beat around, then I ever have had w/ the FF2.......Fiber optics are the exact reason, I own a couple ff2's.....

Nothing wrong w/ going with what you like..... RkLu

Rickey I think the BPS is the best pump gun on the market today you will have a turkey killer on your hands when you get it finished. Mine has a 26" bbl. and it is a shooting machine with a undertaker .665. I had to put sights on it because of the tight pattern.

Good Choice in guns.  I have been shooting a BPS 12 since 1980, with 22.5" barrel that Mark Bansner fixed up for me.  .665 sleeved choke. (that's what they did before screw in chokes).  Had a red dot on it for a long time, Then went to True Glo sights.

The williams fire sight would be the ones I'd go with on Fiber Optic...

Ole William at SumToy knows his stuff and I cannot wait to see this thing shoot :)

The project got stopped in its tracks. William got my barrel and determined the BPS barrel walls were too thin to cut and thread. So, I will have to find a 12 gauge BPS barrel with an Invector Plus choke system before I can proceed. I sure am glad William recognized this before he cut 4 inches off my barrel.

Well Rickey sorry to hear that, but at least you didn't get it cut and then told OOps... ole William knows his stuff!
