COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Jim Tressel, who guided Ohio State to its first national title in 34 years, resigned Monday amid NCAA violations from a tattoo-parlor scandal that sullied the image of one of the country's top football programs.
"After meeting with university officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach," Tressel said in a statement released by the university. "The appreciation that (wife) Ellen and I have for the Buckeye Nation is immeasurable."

He should has resigned a long time ago and avoided the embaressment he caused his university. He knew all along of the impropriaties and "turned a blind eye" to it.

X2- also I think he owes a lot of students some fees returned from his "Ethics" class..... *wha*

...part of being a great coach is having respect and control of your team,...He couldn't do that,...but i'm sure there is much more to this story than we will ever hear.
-
Just win baby!!! Cheat but don't get caught. I wonder if half the team will still have to sit out the first five games this fall??? *lol* *lol*

Terrible outcome to a stupid controversy . All over cheap jewelry and tattoos . Tressel is an awesome coach !
-
Yes he was. But....

All over cheap jewelry and tattoos .
and cars and lies going back years & years....
I do believe that the university knew what was going on too and is letting ole sweater vest take the full blame so they don't get bitty slapped like U$C did

Hearing rumors of drugs along with tatoos.
Looks like the story is going to be bad.

Anyone can be an awesome coach when you bend the rules! OSU was good way to fast when Tressel arrived. Earl Bruce ran a clean respectable program but could`nt beat Michigan. Tressel defeated U of M but cheated! U of M hired a Tressel clone and thank goodness got rid of him!

We are glad that Michigan took him. ROTFLMBO
But then West Virginia's new HCIW may have some issues already and we haven't played a game yet.
-
Rumor has it that Rich Rodriguez may be the next OSU coach.
Qualifications? He already knows how to beat Michigan. *lol*

While I agree that they will pursue him and he would have interest, I don't see him going there if the penalties are too severe. The NCAA takes it's precious time usually. It could be a year or longer before the NCAA hands down the extent of the punishment coming to OSU. No high profile guy is going to step into the unknown or go into the job set up to fail. Now after their punishment is fulfilled.....I think he'd go there in a second.

I agree with what you have said. That being said, tOSU has already announced that an assistant coach will be the interim head coach this year allowing time for the dust to settle. By the way, Urban Meyer bought a house in Columbus about 6 months ago from what I was told.

If he had done that the Buckeyes wouldn't have a National Championship. All evidence suggests this has been going on at tOSU for his entire tenure at the University.

I'll take this bet, I see no way Meyer even gets offered the tOSU gig. Meyer stepped down at UF because of the arrest records of his players and the ongoing scandals at UF. Meyer also couldnt handle tarnishing his win-loss record with the resurgence of the SEC West. Meyer knew the problems at UF were going to come out. I'm convinced that Dan Mullen declined the HC position at UF because he knows that heads will roll there soon. The UF program is full of bad eggs and only Tim Tebow's angelic homoeroticism had kept Meyer's misdeeds from coming to light as long as it did. See All-SEC Janoris Jenkins for the most recent high profile UF player to get on the other side of the law.
After the investigation is over tOSU will want nothing to do with Meyer. The next tOSU coach will be an established safe hire from a middle of the road college. tOSU will do this to eliminate the air of scandal and the truth is no high profile coach is going to take over a program on NCAA sanctions.
-
I don't think it will be in the next two years, theres alot of dust that he wants to have settled till then,...he knows how quick the public forgets....i think he will wait till the sanctions expire and go in on the "fresh start for everyone" mode. It is amazing that all this stuff is coming out in the open now on the whole tressel program,....what a bunch of thugs,.....i wouldn't be surprised if pryor never plays another down.

I heard reports that Pryor talked to two agents last weekend. If so, he can't play college ball. May try CFL for one year if there is a strike. Thats the rumors I hear.

Pryor is dreaming if he thinks he can play as an NFL quarterback! Heck, he was`nt the quarterback god that Tressel was looking for! *lol*
