Title: white river flood 2011
Post by: strutnrut on May 21, 2011, 05:50:15 AM
These picture were taken when I was down home. This flood can't be good for a the turkeys. I only seen one hen when I was down there. The weird thing is you wasn't seeing any wildlife pushed up by the flood.
The pictures are of a Bait Shop right before you enter into the NWR.

The first picture was on the 1st day I was down there. Water already covered the 1st step.

The second picture is the very next morning. They closed the road that afternoon.

The last picture was taken about 10 days later. The water had dropped about 10 inches at this point.

Richard,

We are in trouble here in Arkansas. I live on the White River upstream from where you took those pictures. Bad thing another round of floods started last night. Our turkey population was already down to the lowest I have seen since I started hunting here. I killed the only turkey I heard gobble this spring in my county.

Richard I wish the best for your family down there.  I can tell you we got hammered yesterday and most of the night with rain...  I have not found out how much, but Table Rock and Taneycomo have already said they'd open their flood gates immediately.  As you know, that goes to Bull Shoals that will run right to the White River...

It was raining so hard last night :(

Prayers sent for all of you that are being effected by the flooding.  I know how devastating it can be as I watched the flood of 93 take the in-laws home.  There has been much flooding here this spring as well and yes the hatch is going to suffer once again.
The Midwest is having a time getting crops in the ground, it rained again last night and there are high % chances again today and tomorrow for more.  As mike stated  "Devastating to a lot of people and the environment!".

Very sad this area is getting pounded like this! Not only does this effect people's homes but much of the money coming into this area is from tourism and the recreational fishing. The economy is going to take a huge hit!

I am headed down to Buffalo City, AR for a fishing trip at the White Buffalo Resort at the end of June. Hope I get a chance to do some trout fishing while I'm there but the outlook isn't very good at this point... Regardless, I will be spending my time with family & friends and will have a good time- rain or shine  ;)

This is my Brothers cabin on Lower Maddox Bay. It is 8 feet off the ground and as best we can tell it had around 5 feet of water inside. The water dropped some but they have to take pressure off of the Dams on the Upper White so the water will come right back up. He is one of the lucky ones and he had insurance.

The White River and Mississippi Levees are covered with Hogs. Spring squirrel season is in. If the Game Wardens will let you down sound like a pig roast is in order.

Bad news, we have at least a 50% chance of rain all this week.

Ours is in the 70%, but we had a dry day yesterday!!!!!  I hope it stays dry today too!!!

I cannot ever recall a Spring like this.  Heck we've ever ran the furnace in May from the cool temps!!!
