Had a very quiet morning this am where I worked a bird last Saturday. The birds around here have been very quiet in the past few days, we had some action throughout the week but couldn't close the deal. They'd gobble once or twice on the roost and then shut up for the rest of the morning. I started the morning by getting in close to the bird that avoided me twice last week, around 7:30, I decided it was time to cover some ground, he wasn't gobbling, nor were any other birds in the area. After walking about 3 miles and coming up with no action, around 9:30 I decided to join my Dad on a field that we've been hunting all week. He saw some birds early out in the field bu they were henned up tough. I decided to hunt the opposite side of the field from where he was and on my way down the trail, I spotted this longbeard by himself about 100 yds from the field edge. I quickly found a tree and gave him some soft clucks & purrs to get his attention. Within 10 minutes he was on the ground flopping. Nice 2 year old bird, 18 lbs, 8.5" beard and 7/8" spurs. First tag is filled, now its time to get Dad one before I worry about that second tag.

Ed, Congrats on a great gobbler! I know you been hunting hard and it sure feels great to get that first one. I like the picture of the kids. I am sure they had a blast seeing it and all. Way to go and know its Dad's turn. I will be waiting for his pictures. *up*

Congrats Ed , on your successful hunt . Those birds are in a tough stage right now . It's hard to get on one when they don't talk to ya ! Sounds like you are putting in the work to get one though ! Those are some good looking kids too ! Won't be long til you're calling one up for them ! *up*
