I had the joy of hunting with my 8yo son Saturday morning. He was excited the night before he was even up and out of bed not trouble. He did take a long time eating before we headed out but we had plenty of time. We eased into the woods and listened as the sun was coming up. There was every crow in Indiana in the woods with us cawing away. I made a few calls Then at almost 7:00 a gobble, I said come on and we took off. I have talked to him about walking soft before so he was trying to do this so I turned and said we could pick up the pace until we got closer. We then made it to a pine thicket and setup no more gobbles. Shortly after my partner decided he needed to take a nap so I feel him lean into me ( for those who have small children there is just something calming about a child sleeping) well then it turned into a snore fest. Guess what happened after that Gobble right behind us so I reach back and shake him and say turkey behind us a couple of times. I make a purr and a cluck and I see him coming at 20 yards gun is up waiting for him to step out from behind a tree and then I here it SNOOORE!!! The tom doesn't slow down does a uturn and is gone.
He wants so bad for me to get a deer or turkey while he is with me but something always happens. After I stopped laughing I wake him and asked if he could see the turkey and he said what turkey. ROTFLMBO Then I let him find our way back to the truck so we can get some breakfast. Maybe we will get a chance at a deer this fall.

Hunting with little ones in tow can present some huge challenges , but there is no better reward than to share time in the woods with them ! Congrats on raising him up the right way !! *ride*

Been there and done that with my youngest son. Enjoy them while you can. Mine will turn 23 in June and has 18 gobblers to his credit now. He killed his first one when he was 7 and let a bunch get away before we finally got the first.

I do love every minute. It was hard not to tease him about it. I know of several adults who have went to sleep and woke to find deer or turkey looking at them. I almost think he want to go hunting for the breakfast we have after but he does have some interest and I will take what I will get.
I think the hunting bug will bite soon. We went to a gun store by my father in laws that afternoon and he was looking at the mossberg 510 and holding them and kept wanting to go look at them again.
Thanks for the replies
