Title: # 3 down TOD 2:45
Post by: strutnrut on April 24, 2011, 07:59:57 PM
Man where do I start this one. Saturday was hurrcane winds. Got bet at every turn. Sunday got a late start and got bet to my #1,and #2 spot #3 spot ME and this bird have been going around and around all season. This morning he was on the wrong side of the road gobling his head off. Then it started rain like a cow peeing on a flat rock. It stopped raining went over to # 1 spot again. The guy was still parked on the other end of the field and there was a tom and some hens on the side I wanted to hunt. So off I go, get down there and as I am coming in behind the birds I walk smack dab upon 5 jakes. Lucky I don't get busted. I give them a minute or two to make it into the field and I easy that way again and low and behold they cross bcak over the firebreak back into the woods. I easy out where I can see the field and there is this guy carrying a bird accross the field. Dang just ain't got no luck. I end up hooking up with my buddy that killed a nice bird and was turning in his area for the day. I know this area super good and where the turkeys should be in the pouring down rain. I get lucky and catch this old boy running hens and going away from me. I had to make a super long shot on him.  During this whole time it's raining like it did during the Nashville flood. I reckon if you stay on them long enough good thing are bound to happen.  This hunt wasn't much calling but the Nitro 7's have earned a spot in my vest. 22.3 lbs 1.5 spurs and 12 inch beard

Good story Richard and Congratulations on a nice turkey. Superhooks on that bird. Sometimes the best hunts are the ones where you don't have to call much but know the area well.

You are welcome, I went by Final Flight and you are right they have a lot of hunting stuff. I got the Nitro's there.  Looks like I'll be going back up there to get more next year.  From now on when I go to Reelfoot it will be a regular stop. Good luck this weekend . I'll be in Arkansas for the wifes family reunion.
