I'm off to Mexico, good luck to those of you who's seasons are just starting.
Hopefully, I'll have some good stories, a few pics, and no exotic diseases when I return.

Greeting from sunny Merida, Mexico! The trip was pretty painless and the hospitality last night was great. From here I'll be pushing about 100 miles south toward the border with Guatemala. Daytime highs are expected to be around 104-106, so I should have a fine sun tan upon my return.

Anybody heard an update from Chad....
I have returned and I'm glad to say I saw "mucho, mucho pavos..." I got in this morning, in short I took three "cantadors" with the shortest spurs at 1 3/4" and the longest at 1 15/16"...
I'm officially the owner of two World Slams. I'll do my best to get some pics up this evening..

Congratulations Chad! Which outfitter did you book with? I went with Snook Inn back in February of 2010 myself and must say the area I bow hunted which they appropriately named the "bow hunting sanctuary" :D was loaded with pavo. Look forward to seeing some pictures. *cheers*

I booked through a Taxidermist friend of mine in Louisiana. I really had no idea where we were going until arriving. I too ended up hunting at the Snook Inn with Jorge and the crew. How funny...
I heard about the archery area and saw some videos from it. Pretty unbelievable number of birds there in the archery only section. I wanted to go there and film but ran out of time.
The hunting at that time of year and in that location is definitely different than what I experienced last week. The greatest number of birds I saw at a single time was about two dozen. Based on the vids I saw of the archery area that number is more like 400 for them!

Hmmmm, Sounds like you may have booked with Shane Smith? Let me know if I guessed right. I videoed all 3 of the birds I took in the bow sanctuary and the stories of seeing 200-400 birds in a single field are true.
I seen this awesome sight one morning as a flock from the jungle South of us met up with the birds we were hunting in a milo and corn stubble field.
Was Arillio and Mito still guiding for jorge when you were there? I know at least one of them is getting ready to work with another outfitter that was at the NWTF National convention this year.
It would be nice to see more competition in outfitting bring the price of these hunts down to a more affordable price.

I booked through David Luke in LA, and I hunted with him the entire week. Mito guided David and Marcos guided me. Aurelio is still there and was guiding another taxidermist from Kentucky and his 6 year old son. I dont know Shane, but I understand his group either hunted just before or after our group.
I understand that several dozen Ocellated turkeys were trapped off of the UMA at Cano Cruz and relocated to new UMA's. It wont be long before there is greater competition for hunters and the pricing will probably go down to one degree or another. I dont think Jorge and Aurelio were very happy about supplying the birds to these new areas and then finding out they were out of the loop for outfitting rights.
