Title: Amazing...vintage calls
Post by: Dragonfly on March 14, 2011, 05:11:56 PM
A call sells for 27,000.00 on ebay and all of a sudden all sorts of "vintage" & "rare" calls show up on there.  There seems to have been more classic, collectable listings in the past few weeks than I've seen in a while.

I for one am thrilled to see some new interest in collecting again after what seems like a 3-5 year glut..

Chad,
Yeah, its nice to see some really cool and great calls being listed.  You think its because folks are in need due to the economy that they are parting with items they otherwise wouldn't?  If so that is sad too.  Also, other than a few of the truly rare and special calls, what kind of money will these prized calls bring in reflection of the current market?  It'll be interestin gto watch it pan out none-the-less.

PS- another Gibson was just listed after the closing of the 27000.00 one.  Interesting indeed.

The only bad thing, it seems there are a couple people working together running the prices way up! Why somebody would pay $300 for a call you could buy from the callmaker for $150, is beyond me!

Appears to be a 1960's call Neil made using a tree limb. His early box calls were made from Cedar limbs. Very neat and very early call from Neil.

Jason

This is the second Gibson (decorated) to sell (on eBay) in the past two or three weeks. The first sold for $25,000.00.

WOW!!! that's an early one!!!!  I've seen similar in my magic with wood book, but how would you be able to verify it as the real deal though?

 Richard

Looks like the real deal....based on the call I have. A few more pictures of the end of the call would be nice.

Richard, I'm with ya there, I have also heard that some sellers have seperate accounts and friends that help drive the price up--and they dont have to really let the item go since they or friends are bidding on it to drive prices up--hope thats not the case in these situations...but ya never really know--at the least its nice to see these calls--sice its a rarity to even see pics of them

Surprising that cedar has not cracked, with leaving the pith in it.

Neat lil history on the caller, as always Bill. 8)
