Title: Farmer Trumpet Deadly! (Updated)
Post by: DocHolliday on March 12, 2011, 01:14:38 PM
Started our MS season out right w/ Zach's Woodwind ("Little Black Sambo") African blackwood and Elephant Ivory and an obliging two yr old!
Running late as usual, I get to a secluded food plot and set up just as he lets loose for the first time.  We in biddness!  He gobbled his fool head off.  He gobbled at owls. He gobbled at crows. He gobbled at wood ducks. He gobbled at cardinals. He gobbled at me. He even gobbled at himself a time or two!  Next thing I know, I can hear/feel him drumming over my left shoulder.  Then he gobbled at about ten steps behind me!  After I collect my proverbial hat and clean my proverbial drawers, I slip the safety off my little 20 ga double.  25 steps, flipped him.  Coffee time.  Thank you Lord for allowing me this day in your woods! And thanks Zach for "Little Black Sambo".

Why do you called it the old chair leg, eh? I think its a unique design of his own.

My grandpa was fortunate to go to a private highschool which had among things a wood shop.  This was around 1910-1914.  After he passed away in 1962 we cleaned out the farmhouse attic and came upon a basket of odd shaped wood.  I asked my grandma what they were and she said they were the pactice pieces he did on the lathe in high school.  Years later I saw the same shapes in Rev. Zach's calls.  Similarities are everywhere across time.   Many times they simply occur in nature.  Like the "Golden Mean".

Research the words "Indian Club".  There many makers using this shape.
