Title: a Limba matched set
Post by: jmck on March 10, 2011, 11:14:28 AM
Here is one headed for the great state of Texas----may just jump in the box with em and go hunt with this feller!!!!  ;D
It is a Black Limba shortbox with some yeller wood for a base and Oasge inlays on the body and paddle. The new owner wanted a longbox to match it. I had it done and he decided he wanted inlays and checkering done after the fact. WHEW---I actually got the kerf cut in the longbox after I had rounded all the edges on the box. It worked out but I figured I would screw the kerf cut for sure. Anyway--its a Limba body with Walnut lid and Osage inlays with the checkering on the lid to match the shorty.
Hope the new owner likes em !!!!

Nice looking set but I would have preferred a Walnut base on that shortbox.

That is a fine looking set Jeff!  You know I like limba and the walnut is a great accent to the call.  A few more days and it off to the first round of your spring season.   Good luck!

 * hi *

I'm the fortunate guy who's the recipient of these *different* calls.  I have the short box in my hot little hands now and the long one should be here today  *dance* .

I've decided that Jeff, besides being a great call maker, also has the soul of a salesman.  I call this guy to ask about maybe getting a call, maybe, and before you know it he's sold me three of them!  See what I mean?  I guess I'm fortunate I don't live too close to Chattanooga or Nashville; I'd probably be knee deep in Toyotas and Lexii. :)

As far as the sound of the short box, I discovered that if you drag the top part of this thing across the bottom part it makes a lot of different screeching sounds.  Is that the way it's supposed to sound???  It's almost like it's ashamed of its colors and is trying to be left alone, and screams when bothered.  Never fear, I found a dark brown Magic Marker that'll take care of that orange-ish stuff   *lol*  .

Is it any coincidence that right after he shipped me these calls, he left town??  Listen, Jeff, I *know* where you live...  Serving your sentence in the woods without even a TV set  :o ; poor thing !

Semi-seriously, if any of y'all haven't gotten one of Jeff's calls yet, you really need to.  Built in a classic style, here's one of the callmakers who we may well be wishing we'd bought more from while they were easy to get.
