Title: A bit of advice
Post by: Porter on March 04, 2011, 07:55:31 AM
With what I've went through the last two days, just wanted to share something.

Some of you know now, but my son has been getting checked out extensively at the hospital.  He caught the flu earlier this week and all of a sudden, he couldn't walk.

We spent a lot of time getting test ran yesterday and I just sat their helplessly.  I had no idea what was wrong or what they could do.  At one point, they thought his kidneys had failed.  I never have been so scared in my life.

All I could do was hold my son and try to make him feel better.

Work has been taking a toll on me lately.  I had only gotten 7 hours of sleep in 2 days.  That sleep wasn't very good.  I stayed up way too late and was just getting ready to get some sleep when I checked my work email and I saw I needed to be there today.

I'm at work and my mind isn't really here.  In the end, they found out my son was just having massive muscle spasms and it was due to the flu.  Of course my son gets diagnosed with the flu right after a 27 year old boy died from it in my home town.  The kid was too young for that to happen.

Sometimes I feel like I forget the simple things and do not remember to tell my son and wife I love them everyday.   I was feeling pretty low about myself yesterday.  Work is starting to overcome me and I need Spring to get here.

Hopefully my son will re-gain his strength and be read to go again!  For those that know and prayed for his health, thank you so much!  It was much needed and appreciated during this time!

I'm glad to hear that the diagnosis has a positive outlook. God is good!

Mike, I think at times we tend to be harder on ourselves as we are our own worst critics.

Joshua 1:9
...Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

You're sure right about that Mr. P - family & friends are the truly important issues in life; the rest is just gravy & trimmin's ...

... all my best to your son, your wife, & to you, my friend - hope to hear of Mitch's speedy & complete recovery soon ...

Nothing tugs at you like your sick child . I can remember sitting in the hospital one night with my oldest daughter . She was only 2 at the time and she got really sick . At first they told us it was spinal meningitis and she might not survive it . You talk about feeling crushed ! Luckily they were wrong and it was a simple virus that she did recover from . Thank the Lord !!!
Hang in there bud . I am glad to hear it was just the virus that had him in so much trouble . Now get him out there and get him a big Tom this spring !!!!

Guys thanks for all the prayers and thoughts.  We had another scare yesterday and something "may" be going on with his muscles.  He didn't see his regular doctor on Thursday and when he got his blood results yesterday, he did not like the results at all.

He called us and we talked.  Told him Mitchell was walking a bit better now.  What he thought it might be at first, he said it couldn't be if he was better.  His CK levels were elevated and we have to get him checked out again.

I had to get some work done yesterday and later in the afternoon when I called him, I could tell the spark was back in his voice.  We stayed up way too late last night watching movies, but it was a joy to be by him and him interacting!

Now just hope his blood work comes back normal.  Seems to be more of a hydration issue than anything else right now.

Once again, thanks to everyone for all the kind words and prayers!  It helped tremendously!
