Title: Wood ID
Post by: magnoliagamecalls on February 18, 2011, 11:04:05 PM: Here is a call I did with some wood I had gotten on a trade. Never did find out what it exactly is? Anyone have an idea? It made a great sounding call. It was a fairly light weighted wood and not very hard. Thanks in advance for any info

... are those some type of "nail / spike" marks - pretty darn cool what-ever they are... ;D

I dont think it is nail. I think it might have been shot with a shotgun. There was a bunch of them and they wasnt in any kind of pattern.

Its grain is very similar to pecan but it isnt no where near the density of the any pecan I have ever messed with. I guess it doesnt really matter just curious. Thanks everyone for the compliments on the call.

I agree -- I can't remember where I saw it, but a wood worker had a piece of wood with an old lead bullet in it.

Things like that make you wonder how the story of how they got there...one that got away???

If they ever cut the state forest I hunt in, some wood worker will find a bunch of my lead I left behind *lol*

The holes a d stains are from some sort of boring bug and I believe it to be pecan. Here are pics of the boxes I made from the pecan I got from Morgan. Very similar markings and grain:
