Title: Some wood with a history

One of my best friends has an Uncle that runs Ridgewood Ranch where they retired the racehorse Seabiscuit in 1940. He managed to get me some redwood off the Seabiscuit's stud barn. I turned the call and was able to leave the weathered side on the back. Surface is black anodized aluminum.

You need to get papers verifying where that wood came from. A dated letter from your friend's uncle stating who he was, what he did at the ranch, where and how he got the wood and its connection to Sea Biscuit should do it. It would tremendously increase the value of the call. If it was notarized or witnessed, it would be even better. I know you may not plan on selling it now, but it would hold a lot more value that way if you grandkids or somebody inherited it and decided to sell it someday.

Whoda thunk I'd learn something from those pawn shop dudes on the History Channel?

BTW, that's a VERY cool call!

I agree the provenance would add to collector interest and accordingly, probably value. Very cool history associated with that wood!

Got on the phone with my friend about getting some papers together. He has been making pens out of the wood and selling them in a gift shop near the ranch. He said he has before and after pics of the stud barn. He is also willing to take me up there to show me around and meet his uncle who has ran the property for the last 30 yrs.
