Me too.......had a customer call and ask if I would turn a spalted hackberry piece with these surfaces....I said sure,I ordered a board and soon as I received it I started to worry about the sound since the wood was so light........boy was I wrong......this combo is/was really hard to part with due to its beauty and sound.

Nice looking call.
For a "trash tree" Hackberry has some surprising qualities. It has a surprising tone quality if you get the dimensions right, it spalts very decoratively , and its easy to work, much like poplar.
It makes a pretty good box, too:

Beautiful, what really surprised me was the tonal quality of the wood as soft and light as it is.........
