Title: Another Baby Dolly Call
Post by: Jake St. John on January 27, 2011, 06:59:58 AM
Here is one I just finished for the a friend of my daughters in Alabama.  It is the second from a piece of walnut used to restore the walnut grandstaircase in the antebellum Baby Doll House where the 1950's movie Baby Dolly was filmed.  The movie starred Doug Malden.  I was going to try and use an original section of a rafter for the lid.  The 300 year or more old piece of hand hewned cypress, with the original blacksmith square nails did not work sound wise.  The ridges in cypress did not lend to the right tone for my boxes.  Maybe I can use a piece that the owners gave me for a box one day.  I ended up using a piece of mahogany for the lid. Including a few pictures.
A current picture of the Baby Dolly Antebellum Home being restored by the Winn's in Bolivar Co.

Very nice John! Glad to see the old house is being saved too, love those old historical buildings and even better when some of the salvage wood is made into turkey calls!
