Since I'm not as talented a carver of painter as Whit, Bald and Dave C., I have to think outside the box to compete at the NWTF nats.
This call is from holly with a buffalo horn mouthpiece. What look like "beads" has been turned, burned and painted. Each "bead" or square is individually painted. The pattern on the lipstop matches the pattern on the trumpet body. The inspiration is from the Southwest Native American beadwork and basket weaving. The call won 2nd place in the carved and/or painted category at the 2008 NWTF nats.
