Title: 2nd scrimshaw plus rose engin
Post by: trumpetturner on December 26, 2010, 05:09:39 PM
Here is a combination of rose engine work and scrimshaw done on faux ivory.  Piece is 1.5" diameter.  I made it into a pendant for a Christmas present.  Critiques welcome.

No assembly.  The pattern is cut into the disc with the rose engine, and then the pattern is blackened with the same method as scrimshaw.

Pretty nice.
That would be something as a sound board.

This piece is 1.5" diameter.  I'm not sure this material would work as sound board, but it could be done onsomething that would work.

Nice work Danny. What is faux ivory? Is it the same as alternative ivory?

Yes, they are the same.  I think most are resins, some harder that others.

Thanks Jeff and all you guys for the kind words.  Be looking for another post next week with a similar idea implemented on a trumpet.
