I caught this guy last week at an estate sale. I haven't a clue what type of wood it is, but it sure is beautiful. I just could'nt pass it up. It's from the capital of Brazil and is extremely heavy.

The fish is an Arowana, highly revered by Brazilians and found in the Amazon. It hunts by jumping out of the water and nabbing its prey from overhanging branches. It eats insects, birds, etc.. Who says having a father with a Masters in Icthyology wouldnt pay off? ROTFLMBO

The fish looks to be a pirarucu . I have caught them down in Colombia, Peru, and Brazil. They are some monster fish too! My wife is from Colombia, so thats prety much the only reason why this Georgia red-neck would be down there. They use a lot of bloodwood down there in their carvings.....I have a cane made from bloodwood that an old fella made for me while I was there.

The carving does look just like the pics I've seen of the piraruca........that can be one big fish.

I still don't know what kind of wood it is...... :'( But it sure is pretty....... ;D
I guess I'm going to make a yelper out of it and call it fish wood..... ROTFLMBO

The mystery fish ended up being bloodwood, which has an incredable appearence in the sun light. I decided to make myself a yelper out of it..... ;D
