Title: Blind usage
Post by: shad309 on November 02, 2010, 10:05:46 PM
Do you use a blind? If so, do you wear dark or black clothing?

I have read that you should wear dark clothing and stay away from anything that may reflect light or have light colors. The reasoning given is that light colored clothing will give away your silhouette inside the blind.

Thoughts?

Given the choice I prefer not to use a blind, but I'm not one of those pretentious individuals that swears them off as turkey hunting heresy either.  I've killed many birds out of a blind, and I'm not bothered in the least to admit it.  There are times when a blind is essential, be it a mound of branches in front of you or a simple fabric leg blind.  I dont know that I've ever considered changing my clothing to accomodate a blind, but its an interesting thought..

And when I really want to drive the purists wild, I'll even occasionally put out a decoy!  Oh the horror! ROTFLMBO

That cracked me up!

I prefer to be mobile myself but I use the pop-up blind when I take kids out, it just makes it a bit easier  ;D

Went to the expense in buying one and setting it up for deer season last year. The first morning of rifle season, I went to my blind at O dark 30 and was surprised to find it torn to pieces! From the evidence on the ground, it looked like Joe Fraizer and Mohamid Ali decided to go a few rounds! I guess the two bucks that duked it out liked the blind far better than I did....LMBO!  *wha* *wha* *cheers* *cheers* >!!

Shad....the guy I turkey hunt with is in the outdoor industry and he handles alot of blinds.
It has been proven to us with the blacked out interiors some blinds have these days, that at least a black clothing on the upper portion of your body will keep anyy movement from within seen at all. It has been proven to us by the reps.

I rarely use a blind with birds on the roost unless I have a lot of time to set up.  I use a blind that you cannot see through.  It has no green on one side and green on the other. Since we hunt the Ms. Delta, early in the season, birds can see 150 yards or more in some areas, so we tend to use blinds more early in the season .  Later set ups, late morning or Pm, almost always require a blind until everything greens up.  Since I use a box call almost exclusively, blinds are essential, whether they are log blinds or my moblile blind.  I have killed a lot of birds out of log blinds that may take an hour or so to drag logs up and cross.  Dr. Winn used to kill more birds with an old Stribling box and a log blind than any hunter I have ever known.  It can be a deadly combination.

Since I'm scared of heights, I use them during bow season.  I wear black under armor in mine!  Never have had any issues wearing just camo either.  Heck I use them during deer season all the time with hunter orange on...

Lot's of the farms I woman hunt on our just crop fields!  No trees and no cover.  Set the blind up in a safe direction to shoot and away I go!
