Here are a couple of calls I've been working on since last week. I cut up a large plank of apple wood and found some nice figure in some, I turned a couple of deer calls, a crow call pictured and an Apple and Ebony Turpin style box call. The crow call is also in the style of a Turpin crow call ("The Long One") and the mouthpiece is Aramanth. I talked at length last week with Steve about calls, crow hunting and some of the history of Turpin Game Calls,fully enjoyed talking with him, and was ready to go crow hunting with the muzzleloader after our conversation!

Awesome looking callers. if you would part with the crow caller send me some info. on it. I got one question for ya. What is that between the rabbit ear hammer and the nipple of your muzzleloader? Plus tell us a little about that muzzleloader too. Thanks, Mike

Thanks guys for the kind words! These calls (Turpin style) are still in the design stage , and I am not currently offering them for sale. I do like the sound and am working on scaling them down slightly. I like a call that has balance, feels good in the hand and plays easily. To me, the enjoyment in design is trial and error to develop a call of my own, while my work may resemble others, there are subtle and obvious differences.
As for the shotgun, it is a percussion double made by Navy Arms, the leather between the hammer is a habit of mine (like many things associated with BP guns) it prevents condensation from entering and fowling the powder (or rust from forming) The shot pouch was made by Am Flask and Cap Co. and is vintage, holds 3# of shot. I am looking for an old percussion (or flintlock) double in shootable condition, for now this one is a nice one for field use, and has accompanied me hunting turkeys, grouse, woodcock and rabbits, a lot of fun! I am planning to build a flintlock fowler sometime down the road,,so stay tuned! It would add a lot of enjoyment I'm thinking ,to use a gun I made myself as well as my calls to take a turkey

Thompson Center make some great smooth bore flintlock fowlers. I know a guy that might have one for sale. That is if I can find him. he has taken both turkey and deer with his 68 Cal. Flintlock Fowler. See ya, Mike
