Title: Hornets

Does anyone know the history, or where I can find, the history of Frank Cox's Green Hornet? Wasn't there some follow ups? I think maybe there were some like them made in red and maybe some made in blue. I've got two buddies that have a green hornet and I'm just curious as to the history.

Just have always wondered what the craze was, for a call that was (as I was told) cnc produced.
I know they sound good, but so do others. Maybe it is the fact that everyone of them sound good. But to me the credit goes to the man standing over the lathe hand turning them.

I don't know a whole lot about them, But agreed a hand turned trumpet.

I know they were used to win the Grand National "Champion of Champions" calling contest several times. At least twice, maybe and probably more. I've not been able to attend the COC before, but it would be interesting if any of the "green hornets" were used the last two years. I've been lucky enough to make the wingbone call used by Mark Prudhomme in winning the COC in 2009 and 2010.

I'm not sure but knowing what little I know about Frank Cox, I would be very surprised if they were turned on a cnc machine. Frank builds a quality call and seems to take much pride in doing so.

I've seen pictures of other calls that looked like the "green hornets" but were different colors. I guess they would not be called "green hornets" if they were not green  :-\

Again, Bill knows far more about these calls than anyone I know besides Frank.

Thanks Fred. Mark does an excellent job with your calls. Sounds awesome!!
The different colored ones were not called green hornets, just the same design, so I was told. I don't know how much truth is in any of it. That's one of the reasons for my inquiry.
I know they are highly sought after by collectors and command a very good price.
