Title: Snakewood
Post by: Blackfalcon on July 12, 2010, 01:47:32 PM
Here is a Snakewood trumpet with Elephant Ivory mouthpiece. I have had some pieces of snakewood for over a year sitting in the shop and finally decided to turn something from it. Snakewood can be a real pain as it has a propensity to check and can crack with heat build up, sharp tools required. The Ivory was the smaller section of a piece I bought for another Trumpet order, I hadn't turned any before this, so was a little apprehensive, however, it turns out it works easier than Warthog tusk Ivory. This is some old Ivory and has some beautiful grain. The Trumpet has a CA finsih inside and out as a sealer, then my regular finish applied over it,( still needs buffing.)
Thanks for looking, Dave
