Title: Long boxes, Cost style
Post by: Blackfalcon on June 25, 2010, 04:10:38 PM
Here are a couple of long boxes, I've mostly been working on trumpets since the season ended, but worked in a couple of boxes as well. The first one is Walnut over Butternut, one of my favorite combos to build, and the second is one I built for hunting, Red Cedar over Mahogany. It has a distinctive sound I think the birds around here will like, I made it while I still had that Old Boss hen sound in my head from a day of hunting when we had one really fired up. She gave us the dickens and we gave it right back. All the racket woke up an old gobbler, resulting in a memorable day afield.
Thanks for looking, Dave

Thanks for the kind words, I've been in Maine this past week so catching up, just got home today.
I really like the way the Cedar works with the Mahogany. This was the first long box I made in this combo, not sure why I didn't try it before now, the experiment was worth it, and I will definitely make more of these. The right paddle really brings it to life and has that distinctive sound I was looking for.
They do take some time though to find that right one!
