Been about 6 years ago and 118 pounds heavier than now. Quail hunting on a Wild Quail Plantation in South Georgia. Could only make 2 of the six outings but had a blast and took 43 birds on the 2 outings. I realized then and there it was over. About 80 yards was all I could walk. Man do I miss the outdoors! Men enjoy every second God gives you in the woods, you never know if it may be your last! I was 49!

That's a great point Mike. We should all savor each and every moment in the wild. We never know how long it will last. I have type 2 diabetes and I can see where it is having it's effect on my body nowdays. I pray that I still have many years in the woods but I take each hunt and try to keep something from it to remember in the future. Whether it's an animal or just photos of good times, I want something that might take me back to those days, if needed. Mike I wish we could share a hunting blind waiting on a big 'ol tom to come in. God bless ya buddy !

Mike you are right... You just never know what is in store for us.
I cherish every moment I get in the outdoors and I wish you were still able to enjoy it too.
Now for that picture, you did look like a hit man!

Great post Mike,
I've lived by those thoughts for a few years now. I took my first traveling hunting trip when I was only 22 years old. I was a typical broke college student but I was working part time and pinching my pennies. I saved enough to get myself to Canada to hunt big Saskatchewan whitetails that Fall.
I'll never forget the moment I arrived in camp and found myself surrounded by people much older than myself. I dont know why but I noticed it immediately and they did too. All of the hunters in camp were twice my age and many were far older. I roomed that week with a gentleman from Pennsylvania who was a wealthy retiree. He was probably 60 years old give or take a few years and he told me something I'll never forget. He said that his greatest regret in life was not making these hunting trips when he was my age. He said he always dreamed of making those hunts and now that he had the money and the time he simply wasnt healthy enough to do it. It was heartbreaking to listen to..
My working in healthcare and seeing people affected by illness only reinforced those thoughts.
Enjoy every moment, good or bad... as life offers few guarantees.
