Title: halfmoon scratch box combo?
Post by: bowrebel on May 24, 2010, 05:39:37 PM
Its been a while since I have made any of my scratch/slate combos, so here they are. Still trying to come up with a good name for them. These things take a while to build, but it is worth it. I love playing with these calls. I need to make some strikers for the slate part of the call, but I should have those done on Wednesday.

These two are very unique. The striker is oak out of a slave house in SC, the chestnut came from old fence rails and the poplar is out of a 100 year old house.

These two are walnut and chestnut with a walnut striker.

Very nice work James! What's the story behind the oak from a slave house ? Is it wood that you recovered ? I like it when there is some history behind the wood.

Shadetree, A gentleman sent me the wood, his father was born on the plantation that the slave house was on. He has nothing of his fathers, no pics, nothing. He wanted something made from the wood, so he kept it for a few years. I met him on facebook and he ask me if I could make him a call, so I did. With him being an african american, it really has some special meaning for him. I will post pocs when I get home this afternoon. James

Here is a story about the wood I post a while back. He gave the rings out on Mothers Day and had all of them crying. He said it was the best Mothers Day ever.
