Title: Big Televen Expansion
Post by: West Augusta on May 10, 2010, 10:54:25 PM
Rumors are that the Big Televen is planning on making a super conference in football and have invited Notre Dame, Rutgers, Nebraska, and Missouri to join.  This could really shake up the BCS.  What y'all hearing?

I'm still trying to figure out why Missouri got an invite.  Not sure we could compete in that conference in any of the sports.

They were talking on the local news that the Big Ten brought in the most money this year and beat the SEC.  So lots of money is being dangled out there.

Missouri has said they will not be moving, but I've also heard it's almost a done deal.   Guess we should know something next week.  That would crush the Kansas Mizzou rivalry though.

Foxsports has a very interesting article on it....

It's mainly about money and TV markets.  Rutgers to get into the New York City area.  Notre Dame because they are Notre Dame.  Not sure about Missouri, but Nebraska has a big following.  Also have heard rumors about Pitt, and Syracuse which would destroy the Big East.

The SEC will counter and still be hard to beat. Looks like GT is considering as well as 4-5 other schools including Florida State!

I've heard GT, Maryland, Florida State.  The BCS could be 4 super conferences when this is all over.

I know it's all about money but it's a sad day in my opinion! College football is my favorite spectator sport. It just seems "wrong"???

I keep seeing that the Big East will crumble....  Here they had the most teams in the tourney (basketball) too...

Interesting for sure!

I just keep shaking my head thinking Mizzou might jump ship.  No way they could ever compete in the Big Ten IMO

Mike I know you are not old enough to remember but Missouri once was a College Football Power. I believe the move will help them with a broader recruiting base and exposure. Plus competition breeds better play!

I don't think that they care about Missouri or Rutgers competing.  They just want access to the TV markets.

Evidently Missouri and Rutgers have accepted the invitation to join the Big Ten.  Notre Dame and Nebraska have not answered as of yet.  Vanderbilt is also supposedly in the mix.

I don't think Notre Dame will ever join a conference, they had the chance years ago when Penn State got into the Big 10 but they would lose too much money and their TV time. Being an independant they collect a lot more $$$$$$$$ and they don't need to split.

They better start winning. NBC's rating for ND games have been horrible for the last 3 years.
