Well come and gone is our turkey season. I've had better, but anytime I can enjoy a day in the outdoors... I'll take it! I've been talking with ole No Nets (dcoleinpa) and one day I was out frog scouting... I think it took him back and he said do what? Well our Frog season opens on June 30th and it's a big deal around here. Outside of fresh turkey and maybe some good ole crappie and catfish, frog legs are another one of my favorite delicacies. On June 30th, the back roads here are as crowded as deer season opener! Every hick in the sticks are out in full force after a good mess of frog legs!
Here's some photos from my families farm ponds. I'll hit 6 to 8 ponds on the first night. Since it will be night time, I'll resort to gigs and frog catchers (It's traps you put on a long stick). I used to catch them bare handed until a cottonmouth about bit my friends hand. I'm terrified of snakes... so that was put to a halt quickly!

Porter, I'm bout' to do the same thing....maybe. I'd rather stick a flounder if I can help it, but frog gigging is a blast. Y'all are lucky you dont have to worry about ole 'Shady'. tic toc tic toc *wha* Great pics by the way *cool*

Been there done that. Good story to tell later. But I agree with Doug! The flounder are a lot better till the sharks start coming in for the blood, funny story there too.

Im with ya there Porter---the gigs are alot better. Worked myself into a bunch of watersnakes on night wading catching them---never do that again. All snakes are considered by me to be named rattle-headed-copper-moccisins!!!
I ate them and they flat out scare the heck out of me.

It's a good thing Shoneys didn't have them on the buffet line down at Nashville.... man I hope you are there again next year. We'll have to find some to go eat. Think they'll let us in the door?

love me some frog legs!
reminds me of when i was an ornery kid...(as opposed to an ornery adult now) I had an old neighbor lady that was crazy as all get out. she used to harrass me any time I would go into my woods. she would walk in her woods yelling that I was a murder and all the little animals should run and hide. If I was shooting she would stand in her barn and yell at me asking what I was killing today...
She had a lane going back to her horse barn that when it rained the pot holes would fill up with water. I decided in my youthful wisdom the best place for me to dispose of the front half of the frogs after I cleaned em would be in one of those pot holes full of water. So I ringed a couple of the holes with em. Then hid in our barn and waited until she walked down for her morning feeding of her horses. Probably not the best way to make friends with an anti...but at the time i sure enjoyed her reaction. *prayer*

I'll never forget a little cartoon in Playboy about 15 years ago. It depicted a French restaurant offering frog legs and at the rear of the place it showed frogs coming out in wheel chairs! ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO

Bill I love gator tail... just not sure I'd want to harvest that myself though *peep* Wonder if gigging for them is very effective... Not sure I'd try to catch a gator by my hands... so I'll probably stick with frogs *cheers*
