Title: Ebonizing Rust Stain

Well I read a couple of articles on this and I am thinking it's not rocket science so I guess I will give it a shot. Any of you guys do this before? Are you using White vinegar or Apple Cider? The article I read said you get a better reaction with apple cider? Thoughts, comments, concerns? Am I or can I get blown up lol? This should be fun.

Seems like a lot of work to stain wood. I personally don't like to stain wood, in most cases it seems to cover the beauty of the wood grain. My thought process is if your wood requires stain you might pick a better piece to work with. But I'll admit I'm curious to see what you come up with.

I'm with you on that but I will have to put some pics up as to what I saw, I guess the vinegar does something to the grain and makes it "pop" it looks realllllly cool I think, it doesn't look like stained wood at all, I will look for the pic I saw and post it here.

I have aged wood with Apple cider mixture and spirits. I also use coffee grounds to age wood.

Let me say that this is NOT MINE but I thought it was pretty cool to get that color out of a piece of Maple, don't you think?
Mike, is there only one mixture or as I am reading, I guess there is a lot different ways to do it, thanks, Jeff

Several different ways. That may be, (just guessing) Steel wool and white vinegar mixture). Looks great though!

Ive turned cedar completly black doing the same thing you aree talking about. Once you let the smell go away and polish it, it looks really cool.

Flamed maple is the best wood to use, I love the look of a stained pot. I have done  it in Anaconda Green, Wildcat Blue some grey and yellow and camo colors. People seen to like it. Anaconda Green is my favorite   *bowing*

    Yep - Jack Mincey sure does very fine work - his calls are all top shelf & great soundin' as well ... 8) 8) 8) 8)
