Title: Back in the saddle!YOUTH SEASON tomorrow!!
Post by: AJ on April 23, 2010, 04:51:42 PM
NY youth season opens tommorrow and I donated my services along with a landowner that has 400 private acres of prime mature toms! The young lad' that is hunting with me, had his uncle bid on this hunt at the NWTF local banquet dinner last week!
It will be his first turkey hunt and I am more excited than this kid!
it will also be taped by Peace Outdoors!!
I can't wait! I can't wait! I can't wait!

LOL!

Man, what a awesome day in the turkey woods, this morning! Me and Little Strutter were out this morning and it was perfect! We got over into the mountain, got our gear together and waited a few minutes. About 15 minutes go by and *gobble* in the head of the hollow we were standing in! Again he fires off! I did a little soft calling to him and boom  *gobble* *gobble*, now we have two birds going off and we are between them. We set up along a old logging road and did a little more soft calling! Again, *gobble* then  *gobble* *gobble*, now we have one behind us and two in front of us! We were both ready to explode! I happened to look to my right, and there standing not 15 yards was a jake standing, never made a sound! He saw me and walked away! Well the two birds in front of us are coming in pretty fast and we were both watching so we could get on them, but they never showed up. Not sure what happened! I look to my right again, now there are two jakes standing there! I told Matt here they come from beside us. A couple of minutes went by and we never saw them, so I looked again out of the corner of my eye, now there are six jakes looking around and I heard," Putt". Not good. I told Matt to get ready and swing on them and BOOM!!  *gobble* they all took to flight! *cry* We had a awesome day being together in the turkey woods! He was bummed, but like I told him, that stuff sometimes happens!  >!!

AWESOME story! That story reminds me of when I took my old man for the first time, he never hunted turkey before as he was only a deer hunter and he said he would never chase some "chicken" around in the woods, well let me tell you........when I had 3 longbeards running at him, lol he was soooooo nervous, I have never seen a grown man shake like that before! He said in all his 65 years he never got a rush like that before. Now all he hunts is turkey. God love him lol
