Title: wanting to make a few Sitkas---what paddles work best

Got hold of some old growth Sitka today and have two boxes ready to start. You guys here that have made or bought shortboxes with the body made of sitka---what is a good rreccomendation for me to try?? Any suggestions is greatly appreciated !!!

 Jeff, I've only built a couple with walnut paddles. They turned out nice. I'm sure there's several other paddles that will work also. Sorry I couldn't be of more help man.

You might also try some red cedar,,,here's one with cedar, I prefer straight grain but this was purty,lol

 Red Cedar would probably be the first I would try out.. I have a long box made from Sitka with a Red Cedar lid and it works well!
