Title: 20 ga. pattern
Post by: SS Custom Calls on February 01, 2010, 06:26:51 AM
I don't have the experience of a lot of these guys when it comes to extensive testing and patterning of different chokes and loads, but I did load my first shotshells last Spring. This pattern was shot with my first attempt at shotshell handloads. TSS 9x8, Indian Creek .550, charles daly youth semi auto 20 ga. Taped 40 yards.  I had a pic of a more open choke that gave a more even pattern, but can't seem to find it now. I got 180 in the 10" with it, and it was a much more even spread. Guess I'll have to shoot a couple more patterns this spring.

That's a KILLER pattern for ANY gun.  Just be sure to shoot it at 15-20 yards and make sure the POI & POA match at close distances, Beacuse it'll be VERY tight at short ranges.  RkLu

Those Charles Daly shotguns are great turkey killers. My Daughter hunts with the same model youth 20 ga. and it will outshoot a lot of 12 ga. guns that my buudies use. It is fitted with a primos choke tube and we use hevi-shot #5's in it. I also put a limbsaver pad on it which tames it down a lot. It will trow one of the tightest patterns you will see at 40 yds but still has a sweet pattern at 15 yds as well. You won't miss with it for sure at any range. I put tru-glo adjustable sights on it and dialed it in. I have won several bets against my 12 ga. toting buddies who couldn't believe it would perform that well.

Now Al you know a 20 cannot harvest a bird  *peep* (ok so any people that do not know... I tote 20's too :) )

Wonder where that choke came from... I wish I still had it  *cry*

Great patterns all around.

Tim, I did shoot it at 15 yards and it made one big hole dead center!!  ROTFLMBO  A little too tight for comfort really!! I think I'm gonna settle on the Tru Glo strut stopper for my hunting. It had an awesome even 40 yard pattern with 180 in the 10, and not quite as tite up close. It would have a little more room for error. I also have a red dot scope on this lil' gun. My old eyes don't focus on the fiber optic sights like they used to! Not sure what that's a sign of.  ::)

Yea it is Scott.  *cry*  Well, I guess I'll just keep totin' it as long as it'll shoot and buy a Remmy when it lays down on me. Heck, I bought the lil Daly for a song when I was a gun dealer and have used it for 7 years. I can't complain.  *cheers*
