Title: My Trumpets (Updated)
Post by: MKW on January 29, 2010, 12:09:02 PM
Well, I've had a desire to build myself a trumpet since I first picked one up, so I got a lathe for Christmas and set out to do just that. I have no desire to ever sell any calls, just build them for me and a few friends.
Anyway, I like the look of the one's I ve built, but the sound is not quite where I want it, so I'm still tweaking it a little. I'll get, eventually!
Here are the first three(left to right) that I made. They are made out of Delrin. I like the look of #2 the best. Any feedback is welcomed, good or bad.

If that's your first few on a lathe, I can't wait to see em when you get plenty under your belt. Those are outstanding. I love the design not to fancy and not bulky.

Thanks, y'all!! I'm having a lot of fun with this! I think that I figured out my sound today. The one I built today is almost exactly what I was looking for, as far as sound. I stood in front of a lathe for the first time 13 days ago, but I can see me in front of it for a long time. It's very therapeutic.

Again, thanks,
Mike

This picture ain't that good, but I think y'all can see it. This will be how they will look. Of course, they will all be just slightly different. I figured out the sound, so I should be able to roll with it now.

Thanks. The pictures actually make these things look shorter and fatter than they really are. It is right at 8" long and it's 1/2" just under the brass.
