Title: Bill Lyman Shortbox
Post by: letinmfly on January 28, 2010, 12:48:23 PM
My good friend Bill sent me this shortbox a few years back.  He really liked the sound of this one.  :o
The call is Osage/Mineral Stained Poplar.  I know Porter will appreciate this one.  ::)
The call sounds great and has a lot of rasp and volume.  No need to carry a longbox along with this call. I believe this is one of the first calls that Bill tried his hand at checkerig.  Sorry Bill, I know you weren't too happy with the checkering at that time but I'm proud of this call. *cheers*

Great looking call. I love Bill's work. My all-cedar from him is one of my favorite box calls.

Nice box from Bill.........Those turkeys won't care, if the checkering isn't quite right....It's the sound, that puts em down....

Thanx for the kind words but to tell the truth I hated this call. I love rasp but this call went way beyond raspy to the point of driving me nuts. This call was very loud as well. I think it could cut through a hurricane that's how loud this thing was. Porter I now know what you were asking and I can't say I'll never make another one but it wont be any time soon. My friend Mike Lapp made this combo once and was offered a lot of money for the call and wouldn't sell. He also said at the time he didn't care if made ever another one. This is one of those tough combos to tune and hit it right.  Bill

Bill I understand.  I have probably way too many Osage calls, but I love everyone of them.  If you get the nerves, you know where to find me :)
