I'm here, but you wouldn't know it from the birds I've been dealing with.  The hens seem to like me, though.  *lol*  I'm ready for this warm weather to bring a change around here!

"A HUNT WITH A STORY LIKE NO EVER"  ?? OUT IN A STORE NEAR YOU SOME YEAR. It is all about everything regarding a 5 hour hunt for the "Brill River Legend" in the Burdick Boondocks. This guy started gobbling about 7 am and met his master at 12:06 pm. He weighed 26.7 pounds, had a triple beard longest was 10.4" and the other 2 are 5' each. Both spurs were 1.3" inches long. He is one of my largest gobblers ever harvested. Thank YOU Jesus!!!!!!!!

Pix to follow as I need to downsize dem. Not done huntin just my first hunt got 7 more to go.

Before you begin to score your turkey, be sure to note that all measurements are taken in 1/16-inch increments and converted to decimal form. A current NWTF member or another licensed hunter from the state where the bird was harvested must verify all measurements. A conversion chart for measurements is located at the bottom of this page.

Step 1:

Weigh your bird in pounds and ounces and convert ounces to decimal form.

Step 2:

Measure each spur. Spurs must be measured along the outside center, from the point at which the spur protrudes from the scaled leg skin to the tip of the spur. Add both spur measurements and multiply the combined length of the spurs by 10. This is the number of points you receive for the turkey’s spurs.

Step 3:

Measure the beard length (a beard must be measured from the center point of the protrusion of the skin to the tip) and convert it to decimal form.

Next, multiply the beard length figure by 2; this is the number of points you receive for the beard length. If you have an atypical bird (multiple beards), measure each beard, convert them to a decimal number, then add those figures together and multiply by two. This is the number of points you receive for your turkey’s beards.

Step 4:

Add together the weight, the points for spurs and points for beard(s): This is the score you receive for your turkey.

Well, my season has come to an end, so now I just have to wait and act like a normal person for a whole year . . .  my 4/19 bird had 7/8" spurs on each side with a 9 1/8" beard, and he weighed in at 18 pounds.  Here is a link to the story with pictures, along with the story of the bullet-proof one that I didn't leave the woods with  >:(.

Alarm goes off 3:30 and it is raining. Whats new right? That brings the 5 day total at 10.3". But last day of this season and gotta fill my tag. Arrived at my destination and finally stopped raining at 6:10. Had 2 bearded hens walk by me at 5 feet. As I did a couple soft clucks on my Mero snake wood Yelper a big fan appeared. The big boy had 2 hens leading him to my wet and soaked set-up. Taking no chances to watch a game today, lets getter done and celebrate. This just might be in my all time top 5 gobblers. he came in at 24.45 Pounds, he has serious wounds from fightin and those spurs were 1.5" and 1.6". His soaked beard is 10.85". I just wonder how big the other fighter is.
Now to stop in at our great friends and show off the gobbler and enjoy the black coffee with Korbels breakfast at Ed and Ermies.
