Title: Striker Woods

I am looking for a striker to use on my slate call which is backed in walnut. It an old Ashby call, not a pot call. I want a striker that will be quiet for close work. Which woods will do it? And how heavy should it be?

Those strikers were a block of Walnut hollowed out and a Hickory dowel glued in.  How heavy?  To me that would be your preference.  What feels good to you.

Cherry would be a good choice for close quiet work.  I have an old Ashby around and think it mite be cherry. What is yours Steve. Looks like the tip has been fire hardened?

I don't own one LT. I copied that picture off of eBay so he could see how to make one.

Yes,  Cherry should be good to make a striker for close work.

I have that small striker that came with a different slate call made by Ashby. Would put a pic on here but have not found out how.
