Title: Neat wood
Post by: misfire on December 22, 2009, 01:34:05 PM
Had a guy give me a nice chunk of red mallee, its a burl from Australia. The burls are full of inclusions, no matter how much you sand, you just uncover more. So I sanded the call smooth, then filled each inclusion with silver. Havent done anything further with it yet, I plan on making a very nice presentation case to go with it and then let the customer choose the surfaces

It's pretty wood but the checks, cracks, holes, imperfections and so on are many on that species of wood.  I do like it though.

Dont see me making many out of it for sure. But you should see the vessel he made out of it and sold to the CEO of a large corporation, $10,000 *cool*

I like the idea of filling the inclusions with silver.  Cool stuff.
