Just curious how many call makers entered a call in the new tongue call category this year at Nationals? This is the first year for the tongue calls only category. It'll be interesting to see how many calls get entered in this new category.

They were judged in their own category last year. Mike Lapa had the winning call.

I think lapp and pappy were the only two.

I think there were 6 or 7 total that entered in that last year. There were no ribbons last year. First prize was a scope. Ribbons will be issued this year I believe.

I ran a few of those calls last year and was really surprised at the sound they produced. All were turkey killers.
Loud and had great break. Not what I expected at all.

Last year JJ Reich had challenged all the call makers to build a tongue call for an article he was doing for the NWFT's Magazine, the winner of the tongues was supposed to get an interview article in the magazine, and a prize. The calls were supposed to be in a category for tongue calls only, but with the NWTF getting a new computer system right before the convention, they didn't program the tongue call category in, so they had the calls in with the Other Pot Call category. JJ had the judges score the tongue calls separately to find out who the winner was. This year they had the time to get it reprogramed and put the category in. I knew from the talking about it last year that a few of the builders wanted to, but didn't enter a call because they were mixed in with the pot calls, but this year they aren't. So I was curious to see if any of them entered a call this year? I know of at least 4 builders that entered calls last year, Mike Lapp, Jack pappy Lewis, Myself and my nephew, and I thought there was one other?

I ran one the other week by a Harrisburg callmaker, that was really good, and I was impressed by the amount of craftsmanship and effort this gentleman dedicated to his product. He really went the extra mile in design. As far as I know, he was going to enter it this year. I'm excited for him. Seems this is an opportunity to establish one's self in a brand new, wide open category. Should be exciting for all that enter.
