Bolivian Rosewood over Yellow Poplar. I have been thinking about another barn/farm scene, but something different than my usual barns so his is what I came up with. I wanted to give a wider overall scene with more depth so I set the barns, house, etc. back further and added some rolling fields, pastures, treelines and of course I do love fence lines so...thanks for looking guys.

Sure is beautiful work Scott, and I know you artists pull ideas and visions from past experiences and sights. Something tells me you've hunted this farm before, and if not in person, surely you've paid a visit there mentally. Always love seeing your visions !!

That's an ideal scene, Scott. It transports a guy to being in the field. The detail is amazing. Not only would any call maker, turkey hunter, or artist be impressed. But any farmer, too. Look at how straight those rows are! It's beautiful. The call itself is also really sharp, as always. Beautiful piece of work.

Lonnie--No I have never been to THIS farm, but one very similar to it. I have definitely hunted farms very similar. Had an uncle who had a dairy farm south of me 2 hrs and the barn was set back off the road similar to this with a heffer barn just below, but close. Then honestly I really like farms sort of set into a hillside, or at the base of a beautiful rolling ridge, like this one and I always imagined myself waking up and heading out for a great walk in the woods or for a spring turkey hunt. Frankly, I just love land...farm land that ebbs and flows seamlessly with purpose and up hera in the northeast there is no shortage of it. I just close my eyes and see it...so I draw it.
Mike - There was more I wanted to do, but I was afraid it would get too busy...this had all the essentials elements and it all seemed to tie together.

When I was young, I used to hunt elk in the River Of No Return wilderness area in Idaho with a real cowboy named Wes Docksteder who lived in a truck camper in the Copper Basin tending cows. We'd ride back into the wilderness and be gone for days hunting. One year, I missed the hunt, and Wes killed a big 7 point bull. When we talked, he described how he'd ridden in the night before, then slipped down a steep slope the next morning, and spotted this guy laying in his bed looking down hill. He shot him right there. The bull never knew he was there. I said, "I'll bet you couldn't believe your eyes when you saw him and didn't know what to do." And Wes said, "Actually, I'd seen him laying there a million times, and I knew exactly what to do." I think we all have these idyllic places in our minds' eyes where we go a million times before the hunt. This scene looks like one of those places. I've looked at it again and again. I just love it, Scott.

I hope to get back to Vermont one of these days, and I will make it a mission to photograph some of the farms there, meanwhile I will also look here in Maine. My mother had lots of pictures of old barns she painted, but I haven't come across them yet.

"borrowing" some of your pictures for inspiration is easy since they are all great and I appreciate that offer...if I did use some of your pic's well then I just might have to send a call to *peep* ;) ;) little do you know what transpires behinds the scenes, however, don't pay any attention to that man behind the curtain ;) ;D
I would love to see some of the Vermont farms...spent a lot of time touring that great state when I lived just north of Albany NY some years ago--just beautiful.
