Title: Gaboon Ebony
Post by: Gitzit69 on December 19, 2009, 09:37:11 PM
I've been thinking about doing a pot out of Gaboon Ebony, but I read that it has cracking problems. Any of you guys got any helpful hints for me?

One thing is DO NOT over heat it!!! Believe me!!  ROTFLMBO  It will crack real easy from heat, I ruined a paddle once shaping the radius on the belt sander..

Adam has a pot turned now, so far no problems. He turned slow with sharp tools and took 6-7 times stopping 30 minutes or so to let it cool. That what he was told to do and it worked. Gonna wait till spring to finish.

Why the wait till spring to finish? Should it set a while after turning?

No, he is going to make a set and he needs some other woods. He put it inside in house. He said he hasn't decided the surface yet for which call.
