I've been rattling my jaw for the last 3 years about wanting to learn how to make calls... Well...I just got back in town from a call making workshop in my Chattanooga Tn. buddies garage.. Boot camp started at 7 a.m. until 2:30 am for 2 days. I was allowed to eat bread and water and use the johnny in the woods.. It was rough!
#1 Short box call is Southeastern Walnut over MS Poplar
#2 Short box is Maple over a light green MS poplar
#3 Long box is Bloodwood over the same light poplar

Steve, You have officially been bitten by the call making bug. A sickness in which there is no cure. Your first calls came out awesome man.. RkLu.. Congrats!! Way better than my first ones did ;D. Well the way I figured... I had some guys that were closer to the house, but those guys that wouldn't consider my plea.. Then I've got another true blue brother that I'm hoping to spend alot of time with.. but he's quite a drive away. I know there is some coaching over the phone available, but I gotta put my eyes and hand on it to be able to comprehend. So for my first weekend of making sawdust... it was quite enlightening. The day I got home from my trip I spent $400 buck at my local woodworking shop on a few hand tools, drill bits and clamps.
PS... Anyone need wood.. I gotta get some more tools.... hehehe *lol*

I will not take Steve long to jump in all the way---for a SIMPLE ole COUNTRY boy....he catches on really fast . He has learned that there is a lot of dulling knives no matter which way he chooses. The second call was left thicker to try to get more high end in it, but then he learned just what a tuning knife is all about...he sat there forever, ya should have seen the pile of shavings he had there.
My bet is that with the look the big un had--we have a new member in the callmaking brethren !!!! *bannana*
I have really been waiting to see some of the mischief and lies that were swapped in that shop. Wander who will be the first to 'get it started". There are lots of pics and stories of things they really don't want out. Especially on the 3 visitors---I always behave.

Ok... I'll get it started. One of the funniest moments was when Steve went to finish his first call. He grabbed the can of Def. Not paying attention which direction the nozzle was pointing ...... Shot himself in the eye *aah* we were ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO ROTFLMBO. His eye lashes were stuck to his eye lids all day. *lol*

another thing I noticed---that Stoner and Kruer wore my bionocular glasses most of the time..... *peep*.

Yes Sir Mr. Jeff,.. My lips are sealed. I understand the oath i had to swear too before I was allowed to enter the Masters Den *up*. I even deleted the pics.. Don't need that stuff to hit the net!................... and Brent was distracting me when I shot myself in the eye with Def.!

All I got to say that if your a fella like me .. I like my meals that you can eat and 3x per Day.. Jeff drank 30 something Cokes and Brent drank nearly as many of those "BigRed" soda crap.. No wonder you can only buy that stuff in Kentucky.. Heck who else besides Stoner would pay for that it... NO ONE! Reminded me of cough medicine. *aah* *aah* *aah*

Jeff, not sure what those guys are talking about. I was told there was food in the fridge and was welcome to it any time. Drinks in the cooler and not to mention that your wife made a pot of taco soup that was fabulous. We also had some BBQ. Not sure if those guys could keep up with you. *lol* I think they were making excuses for being worn out and needed a break. *cry* *cry* *cry* *lol*

Believe your right Frank---I don't think those boyz know what working in the shop(around the clock) is all abaout---ya cant waste time when ya get in there. I see your pace and know ya spend as much time as I do in there .....I think they gave out *lol*
I kinda think that the first stop when yall got into town was their demise....someone just happened to get a pic early fri when the Ky gang showed up in town---cant figure out with a full callmaking weekend ---whY this stop was made first.....huh---I am confused, but with the colors on the sign and the banner flying on the building , well....guess it explains a lot........ *peep*

Well thanks for all the encouragement.. It has only taken me 3 years to turn 1 out.. Well since Ive been home I've been to my local Wood Crafts store 4 time, spent around $800 bucks and have yet to turn out a call.. Getting ready takes a lot of prep,planning, and money! .... DANG!!
At least I have a 30x40 shop that is being used now.. Ill post pic's as I get it laid out..

That's part of the fun. I'm working on a shop myself but no where near as big as yours. Looking forward to seeing the pictures and what you turn out.
