I came across this story, some of you may have seen it before, but am curious how rare an anomaly this really is. I would love to hear stories of encounters with various color phase birds you may have hunted. It might be wise to leave out details such as exact locations due to internet trolling, but general areas, east, south, mid west,etc should be fine should you choose to disclose that information. It is some what rare......I have seen six turkeys in various phases of sivler to white...mostly hens. Never shot one.....just to pretty. The black phase of coloring , I understand, is much more rare.

That is an awesome story. Just not sure if I could have shot it. Most likely yes, who knows.

Awesome story. I have seen two birds with white in them. A hen and one gobbler that had white on the tips of his wings. He never was close to range and the farmer had told me he was off limits :)
I was lucky enough to see the white hen last year. He's certain it was a domestic hen that got mixed in the flock. She showed up many years ago. He has pictures and was afraid she had not made it until I saw her last year. He saw her days after I did. She has been the boss hen of that flock for several years. He's not real sure how old she is, but he's pretty sure he's seen this bird the last 6 years.

That is a beautiful gobbler. That animal is no different than the next gobbler when it comes to hunting. If it is a legal animal then take it if you get the chance. It obviously is a recessive gene or they would have others like it already. I see no reason why a hunter should not harvest this bird. Letting it live would not necessarily equate to having more like it. Trying to hunt one single gobbler can be a serious challenge no matter the color. Congrats on a nice turkey! I don't really think we should be selling such rare creatures to the highest bidder though, kinda makes it look like we value the money more than the rare bird that he harvested. If I had the opportunity to tag one in color phase then I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger. But I would mount it and cherish that fine animal for the rest of my life. I don't hunt to put dough in my wallet. But that is my personal opinion. Merry Christmas to all !!!
