Title: "Miranda's Miracles"
Post by: GR8CALLS on August 12, 2014, 02:14:55 PM
Here is a scratch box I am donating, to benefit,  Miranda Miller. Lonnie Sheeley contacted me two weeks ago and invited me up for the get together and auction and also asked if I would donate a call. Lonnie, I hope this will in a small way, help this young lady with the expenses she faces.

Bill, Lonnie and a whole bunch of PA boys are going to have one heck of a picnic and benefit auction in Enola, PA for Miranda Miller (5 years old, currently battling Leukemia) on September 13th starting at 11AM.   It is a great thing the turkey hunting community and callmakers are doing to help this beautiful young girl and her family.  Thanks for your support for this fundraiser.

Anyone here interested in attending contact Lonnie (lonnielou688) on this forum, they are going to need a head count real soon.

Bob

I spoke to and was ask by the "Old Buzzard" himself if I could make a call to donate for Miranda Miller's event.  I don't know that I will be able to attend the event so I have touched base with Andy Snair and will meet up with him hopefully this week to get these calls to him so that they make it to the auction.
The first call is one that I posted here a few weeks back.  It's a Jordan Style, River Cane Yelper that has some real nice Black Cherry Burl wooden accents, a Snow Goose Bone mouth piece, matching Black Cherry Burl adjustable wooden Lip Stop and Lanyard.  The wooden accents on this call are just that, accents as this call is a true Jordan in that each section was carefully matched to fit snuggly into the next section of the call.

The second call is a Turpin Style Trumpet/Yelper.  For this call I thought it only fitting being I was making the call specifically for this little girls auction to turn the call from a piece of Queenwood.  The Call has a Black Buffalo Horn ferral, an Ivory Mouth Piece with some extra detail an EVA Foam Lip Stop and Lanyard.

The third call is a Glass over Glass, Bubinga Pot call with matching Bubinga Striker.  The pot has a Tru Oil finish and the striker a CA Finish.

I hope these calls do well for this little girl.

Those are outstanding and thanks for donating to the event, every dollar helps.  More important and most forgotten is the kindness and generosity of callmakers and the hunting community, that is going out of its way to support this young and beautiful girl and her family.  I hope that Lonnie and company can get the media, print and TV involved in this story.  Something I hope they will cover.

WOW AUSTY, I don't know what to say about that generous donation, kinda leaves me with tingles up my spine, in a good way. AGAIN, WOW, Fantastic job too on all I see, the pot call is nice with Miranda's Miracles on it. Rick Harro says Miranda is set to attend  , if all goes well between now and then. Sure wish YOU could attend as well Austy, but by the looks of these gems of calls you have delivered, I'd say your presence and heart will be well represented. As far as the media, we have contacted 2 local TV stations, one newspaper, and one outdoor writer. As of Friday, only the outdoor writer has expressed an interest in covering the story. BUT, STILL working on an angle BOB,I agree that this has a great storyline to it, about what goes on with hunters and fisherman, after the chase is done. Were a powerful lobby and can get a lot done as such, more so than with ANY government "aid" and "red tape" involvement . Hunters know the right things to do to help their community, and very seldom ever need to be asked to do that right thing. It jus' happens naturally. Austy, from the WHOLE crew over at huntingpa.com, and Rick Harro and Lee Bowles, from Andy Snair and Kenny too, Thanks for who you are and what you do for others, we couldn't do this without you !! This is what its all about, Thanks, Lonnie

I also personally want to thank Mike Lapp for his beautiful donation boxcall, I'll see if Rick can post it up here for a look/see, it sure is a beauty and deserves to be seen , before someone snags it at the auction  ::) .   Thanks Mike for being so generous with your heart and your talents, its my pleasure to be able to add your name to our cause . WOW !! GOOD STUFF GOIN' ON !!!

Hey to all you guys, I just wanted everyone to know that our picnic-auction event was a HUGE success, we raised $11,009.00 for Miranda and her family, in a 6 hour event. We had an unimaginable amount of food, 79 items donated for auction and 22 items/baskets of goodies for raffle purposes. We also had two firearms and paintings, handforged knives and all kinds of other goodies too. Items were actually showing up from the general public while the auction was going on. Andy Snair and his grandson Zaiden ( age 5 ), presented Miranda with a wingbone call they made together( Zaiden knows his craft, for real). It was a wingbone call adorned with 14 handcarved rose buds ( for the year ), in a longstem style hinged lid box, with Andy's artwork ( rare, I actually thought Brian Aliff at first) on the outside. The wingbone rested on a satin pillow with lace trimmings inside. The whole place was speechless, then the tears flowed. Very moving ceremony. You the King Andy! Such Class.  Every donation we had, and you could tell, came from the heart. The outdoor community really stepped up with this effort . Makes me so proud to be a small part of it.  I know you guys get bombarded with requests each and everyday, from every direction imaginable, and I know you give freely to all you can. I thank God for giving you the wisdom to decide which request is the most important for you !! You are all great folks. We had a real turnout of callmakers from age 21 to age 84. I'll let you all deduce who is what age, but Dale Rohm says he already has dibbs on the 21 age !! Really witty fellow !! We had in attendance, and I hope I don't miss anyone, Dale Rohm, Scott Basehore, Mike Lapp, Andy Snair, Kenny Crummett, Lonnie Gilbert, Kip Feroce, Rick Harro, Lee Bowles, Austin Hornberger, Tony Ezolt, Jeff Graham, Ralph Zorn Sr. ,Phil Petka, Austy Bott, Harry Romig, and a fellow with a brimmed hat and a name tag of "Catfish". Sorry guy, you got by me before I got your real name. But we'll go with Catfish !! Also had a huge help from Butch Faulkner, who worked on his day off for us, and Don Heckman for helping with our auction official duties. Auctioneer Jesse was awesome, and funny too. A little bit of stand up comics lives in every auctioneer, I'm convinced. What a fine job by all, and wouldn't have been possible without each and everyone there. Every person had a role, and fulfilled to the "T'. Some pictures will follow, as soon as I get them hosted and sized. Best Regards, Lonnie Sheeley

I seen you talking dogs muzzleman, and I still didn't get to talk as long as I wanted to, to Pitty, we need to get together. I'd say the "roost" was well represented by you fine gentlemen. Tony Ezolt and Andy Snair too.  BOB, who was the fella named CATFISH, WHITE SHIRT WITH WIDE BRIMMED HAT ?

I'm kinda thinking its Fred Ressell, who lives in Holtwood PA. We had a Ressell call show up at the very last second before the auction started. Holtwood is right along the Susquehanna River, so maybe that's the "catfish " connection. The Ressell donation was a Cost style box, very nice and sounded great. Anyone know of Fred Ressell.?
