Title: wood finish for dinning table?
Post by: creekrocket on December 13, 2009, 08:54:30 PM
What kind of finish do y'all  recommend for a dinning table? I'm about to do one, and I know out of all you great call makers, there is someone that can point me in the right direction.

I would use a polyuerethene, it will be the most durable finish. Hand rubbed finishes require a lot of maintenence

Try a coat of tung oil to bring out the grain and maybe 3-4 coats of poly..

Sorry, I just noticed this post.
I use commercial grade catylized lacquers, and conversion varnishes in my work. These are best applied with high grade spray equipment.
For a do-it-yourself project, a good quality oil based polyurethane, applied with a high quality brush will do an excellent job and will be plenty tough for normal use.
Tim.

I really appriciate the info guys. I ended up putting five coats of floor grade poly on it and letting set for about five days. I just got finished buffing and poloishing it today and it looks awesoe. I'll try to post some pics when I get off the boat.

        Thanks for the help y'all
