Title: Crotch on Crotch Walnut Turpin from "Scout"
Post by: Jake St. John on May 12, 2014, 11:28:47 AM
Here is a Turpin that I just finished up for my Grandson Cooper's Vest.  He is 5 and it won't be much longer before he will be pulling the trigger.   He went on his first hunt with my son and I this year.  The darker crotch walnut was given to me by a callmaker friend Tom Crook in Hatley, Ms.  He got it out of a furniture dump up there.  The lighter crotch walnut box was from a walnut tree on the banks of Lake Jackson at Chatham, Ms.  Compliments of the New Farm. Thanks for the look.

John, I know darn well it is full of turkey. But, you wouldn't have to play it, to mesmerize an old gobbler. That is beautiful!  *up* *up* *up* *up* *up* *up* *up*

GORGEOUS CALL!!!!!!!  I would kill for a call like that.  What does that crotch wood sound like?  I know grain pattern is a big issue in call play and sound quality.  Just curious as she is beautiful.  Dang good work buddy.  Cant wait to get mine someday from you.---Jason

Call me at the number that I PM'd you and I will be glad to play it.  Nice lower rasp on left with a proud rasp on the right that will make um turn their heads.  Plays all the soft clucks and yelps, with a dynamite gobble.  With the crotch wood you can make the box where the top of the rail has the grain running like a regular straight grain box.  You can get a great sounding box with the beautiful box also.  Solid burl is a different animal.

Thanks for the interest in my calls.
