Spent the weekend on a state park hunting public land birds. Birds that were ghosts!! It was 35+ mph winds, torrential rain and the temps dropped. I did not see any tracks, feathers or crap anywhere the whole time. Never heard birds gobble going to roost or in the AM on the roost. I had one gobble back around 8am Sunday morning and the next 2 gobbles came from further away each time (across the property line....). Went back Monday morning to the spot I had heard the bird the day before and nothing.
Even though we had no luck, 2 new turkey hunters were born the moment they heard that first gobble RkLu

The fact you stayed after them in bad weather and lack of action says a lot.

The two that went with me are already talking about next year ;D
I wonder how bad they'll get the bug after they see a gobbler....
These guys only had one weekend to hunt so I had to try my hardest to get them on a bird. They kept talking about how much exercise they were getting lol. I bet we walked at least 20-30 miles in 3 days. They're waterfowlers so walking the woods was completely new to them!
Oh yeah, and no morels up here yet.

When they see one come into a call they will be lifers. I heard my first turkey gobble when I was 8 years old. I been hooked and trying to kill them for the past 46 years, and still love it as much today as I did thin. Good Luck
